Te Ware Rā
Established in 1979, Te Whare Rā (meaning “The house in the sun” in Māori) is the oldest boutique winery in Marlborough, home to some of the region's most venerable vines. Owned and operated by winemakers Anna and Jason Flowerday, the estate is a pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming, focusing on "good dirt" and hand-tended vines to capture an authentic sense of place. Their 11-hectare Renwick vineyard is managed as a diverse, living ecosystem, resulting in wines of exceptional purity and texture. While they are celebrated for their world-class Pinot Noir they are most famous for their "aromatic specialists" reputation, specifically their intense Rieslings and the iconic Toru—an innovative co-fermented field blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Gris.
